Islamist group stones adulterer to death

The BBC has reported Al-Shabab, a Islamist group linked to Al-Qaeda, have stoned a man to death for committing adultery. They spared his pregnant girlfriend, however, until she gives birth.

Abas Hussein Abdirahman, 33, was killed in front of 300 people in Merka city, just south of the capital Mogadishu. A form from the group said the woman is to be stoned when she has had her baby. The BBC reported that this incident was the third time this kind of thing happened in the war-torn country.

The group said that Abdirahman has confessed to committing adultery and thus was to be stoned to death under Islamic law.

The current President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has allegedly accused of the group of ruining Islam's image. He has condemned the killings and the Al-Shabab group.

The president said the group has forced women to wear heavy clothing and that they are doing this for economic interests.

Last year, a 13-year-old girl was stoned to death for committing adultery although she said she was raped.

Somali has been without a stable government for more than 18 years. Al-Shabab abides by a strict version of Islamic law and is in control of the southern part of the country.

This was just an interesting story because this group, which the U.S. has said it is a terrorist group, has had a negative impact on the lives of Somali people. It has held control of the southern part of the country for a long period now.

The article just stunned me because I see more and more of these kinds of acts this group is portraying as ok to the rest of the world.
