The New York Times talks about a video by Spike Jonze featuring rapper Kanye West. The video which is a short film that is depicting Mr. West's life. It is a song that is in his recent album "808s & Heartbreaks". The video is meant to depict themes in Mr. West's life in times of loss (of his late mother, Donda) and isolation.
The sources that are used in this story include an interview with the director, Mr. Jonze and the actually video itself as it is mentioned and referred to a couple of times within the story itself. The author also uses a marketing mogul to give the reader some sort of background about sales with videos/short films like this being in iTunes for sale.
The angle of this story is to inform the reader/public about this. What it did for me was something I hadn't thought about before. After Mr. West's outburst on MTV' s awards, I thought that that event was somehow staged and it was some sort of publicity stunt for something else. The article proved my suspicions to be somewhat true. This New York Times reported this short film was posted on Mr. West's Blog just a little after the outburst on MTV .
I don't know if this might have been a publicity stunt for people to buy this short film or something else, but this report sort of connecting that for me. So it was taking the angle of reporting this and sort of connecting the two together for me.
The reporter did a great job in crating something more than a listing because he described a lot about the film, he gave substantial background on exactly what the story behind the story was. He talked to the director and got his point of view. It was sort of a story rather than a listing of what is happening with this video/short film that is about to come out on Tuesday.
Overall, this upcoming video has people already raving over it and anticipating for it to come out.

News Release
The news release I looked at went into a lot of specifics and I felt that the reporter just captured a bit of what the NR had to say.
The reporter summarized most of the news release and reported what was happening. The reporter also took a few quotes from there to support what he was saying. However, I felt that the news release said a lot more. It had a lot of information that was useful to the reporter but the reporter just incorporated what he wanted to say.
The news release and the final report looked identical and essentially told the public about what was going on with this company's new product. However, I felt that the report was more of a way to inform the public and the news release was for the media to use.

Islamist group whip women for wearing bras
HIIRAAN, a Somali-based news online site, reported that the Al-Shabbab, an insurgent group linked to Al-Qaida were believed to be whipping women who were found to be wearing bras.
The group, which follows a strict form of Shari'a law (Islamic Law), have cut the hands and foot of people who stole in the past. The group recently banned all forms of entertainment such as movie and music in the parts of Somalia it currently controls.
It has been reported by Hiiraan that Al-Shabbab has whipped women who wore bores because it constitutes deception to the eye. "The women were later told to remove their bras and shake their breasts", reported Hiiraan.
Honestly, when I first saw this report, I couldn't believe it. I thought that this was the worst thing they could have possibly done. This was so inhumane. However, it was interesting to read about this. I tried to find any other news site that reported about this incident, but I wasn't very successful.

Balloon Hoax in Colorado
CNN reported that the "ballon boy" saga is a hoax. Authorities confirmmed that the hoax was a publicity stunt made by the Heene family to get a chance to be on reality TV.
Last Thursday, October 15, the saucer-like balloon was believed to be carrying their six-year-old son, Falcon Heene, when it set loose from the Keene home in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Authorities said the balloon was about 20 feet long and 5 feet high. They said that the balloon went as high as 7,000 feet in the air early Thursday afternoon. During this time, the Sherif's deparment contacted a specialist to determine whether or not the child could be in the balloon.
However, the child was later found at the attic of the Heene house. It raised a lot of suspicion when the Heene gave an interview with CNN. THe Hollywood gossip group, TMZ, also reported that the Heenes wanted to pitch a reality show about their family to some media outlets.
The County Sheriff Jim Alderson announced early Sunday morning that the balloon incident was indeed a hoax.

Boyzone member, Stephen Gately dies at the age of 33
When I first saw this news story, I really did not know who Stephen Gately was or what he does for a living. I first saw this news when a friend of mine changed her status on facebook and I clicked on the link that she provided.
I saw rumor blogs and other news outlets that reported Stephen Gately "supposedly" died. I thought maybe this would be a good news event to follow since it was the first-day of the story. The lead in the first story was sort of a question, a suspicion, but not true kind of lead.
Then, when I went back to see how the event was covering today, everything changed. First of all, there were a lot more blog stories and actual news outlets that covered the death of this singer. Secondly, I noticed that the leads now included his age and what boy band he belong to. The stories basically differed and so did the leads.
The leads were more informative, more in depth and definitely more advanced then the others. The two stories that I compared definitely differed. The first one talked a lot about how this could be a rumor and nothing more. But when I looked at the second one, the second day, it was very different. Of course, the news of his death was actually true now so there was more information.
The news included more about the singer, the people he left behind and more about his singing career. It had more substance in that it basically summarized his greatest achievements and celebrated his life as a singer. Especially one that was openly gay.
I didn't see that there was competition between news organization but I did notice that since he was British singer, a lot of the news I've found were primarily on British sites.

Progression of Information
I couldn't really pick out an article to analyze for this news entry because I feel like all the articles capture some progression of information in them.
All the news sits that I look at, NY Times among others, are very prestigious newspapers that are well equipped with information.
Most of the reporters summarize the important elements of the articles very well. They lead give the reader with the most relevant, newsworthy information first and slowly get down to the not so important information.
Some stories are chronologically well organized while others give you the fine details first while holding off other information that could have made the article more orderly. Most part however, and most of the articles I read are usually well organized and the information is seemingly effective.
By giving the reader ample time to digest all the information, these articles are very effective and well organized.

Student accused of stabbing another student
The New York Times reported investigators found no motive behind a student who stabbed another student in the throat last Thursday in a chemistry lab at UCLA.
Damon D. Thompson remained in jail and was on a $1 million bail Friday, reported the New York Times. Thompson stabbed another student, who remains to be unidentified, during their chemistry lab. Students watched as the 20-year-old woman's blood gushed from her neck. Instructors tried to stop the blood before the victim was taken to the hospital.
Authorities say they do not know if Thompson has obtained a lawyer, but he is scheduled for an arraignment Tuesday.
USA TODAY reported that a professor suspected that Thompson was mentally disturbed. UCLA history professor Stephen Frank said he met Thompson in his Western civilization class last year.
In one email sent to Franck, Thompson accuses him of taunting him and making offensive comments while taking an exam.
"I believe I heard you, Professor Frank, say that I was 'troubled' and 'crazy' among other things, "Thompson wrote. "My outrage at this situation coupled with the pressure of the very weighted examination dulled my concentration and detracted from my performance," reported USA TODAY.
The family of the victim says that she is expected to recover. The school did not comment on how well they could have handled the complaints about Thompson's behavior.

China's celebrates 60 years
China celebrated it's 60th anniversary Thursday with a showcase of military might in a massive parade in central Beijing.
The parade marked the day when Mao Zedong formed the People's Republic of China in 1949. The parade, which is said to be the biggest ever in China's history, was the main feature of the day long commemoration.
Among the honor guests at the main event were communist leaders of China and other prominent figures. China's president, Hu Jintao, addressed the crowd and gave the keynote speech.
"The 60 years of new China have proved that only socialism can save China," Hu said, dressed in a traditional Mao-style suit. (Aljazeera)
The parade included a display of the military power as well as the advanced weapons that China possesses. Aljazeera and BBC both reported that this is significant in that China is conveying a message to the world about their forces.
Security was tight and residents of Beijing were told to not leave their homes. In the days leading up to the parade, activists and human rights groups were jailed or placed under heavy supervision.
Aside from parade celebration, there were other civilian celebrations. The civilian parades included about 100,000 people along with floats and other pieces dedicated to China's space program and Beijing's Olympics which took place last year.
Other Chinese leaders overseas said that the anniversary was an unprecedented grand celebration that illustrated the strength of modern China. (BBC)
