The StarTribune reported that a Minneapolis man, who is unidentified, surrendered himself after his mother heard a radio report on WCCO about accidentally killing a pedestrian in South Minneapolis on Thursday.
The WCCO (8:30 AM) radio report which aired early in the morning on Thursday was said to be the main reason why the man surrendered. The police asked the suspect to turn himself or herself in before the situation got worse. His mother was listening to the station and called WCCO to get information on who to contact at the Minneapolis Police Department.
Minneapolis Police Sgt. Jesse Garcia said that the man called him a little after 1:00 p.m. after the report aired on Thursday.
"He sounded like he was scared and somewhat remorseful," Garcia said. "I did tell this kid that he did the right thing for himself and his family by turning himself in before a bad situation got worse.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner did not release the victim's information.
