HIIRAAN, a Somali-based news online site, reported that the Al-Shabbab, an insurgent group linked to Al-Qaida were believed to be whipping women who were found to be wearing bras.
The group, which follows a strict form of Shari'a law (Islamic Law), have cut the hands and foot of people who stole in the past. The group recently banned all forms of entertainment such as movie and music in the parts of Somalia it currently controls.
It has been reported by Hiiraan that Al-Shabbab has whipped women who wore bores because it constitutes deception to the eye. "The women were later told to remove their bras and shake their breasts", reported Hiiraan.
Honestly, when I first saw this report, I couldn't believe it. I thought that this was the worst thing they could have possibly done. This was so inhumane. However, it was interesting to read about this. I tried to find any other news site that reported about this incident, but I wasn't very successful.
